the moisture mitigation membrane and the crack suppression membrane.

Moisture Mitigation Membrane
Moisture is one of the most common causes of terrazzo failure. Excessive water vapor migrating from the concrete substrate can lead to adhesion loss, blistering, or discoloration—issues that are especially critical in non-porous epoxy terrazzo systems.
To address this, the VIA.ZZO system incorporates a specialized epoxy-based moisture mitigation membrane. This layer acts as an effective vapor barrier, limiting moisture transmission from the concrete slab into the terrazzo topping.
Crack Suppression Membrane
Concrete substrates are inherently prone to cracking due to shrinkage, thermal movement, and structural stresses. Without protection, these cracks can telegraph through to the terrazzo surface, compromising both appearance and performance.
The VIA.ZZO crack suppression solution consists of an elastic membrane reinforced with glass fiber mesh, specifically engineered to prevent crack propagation from the substrate into the terrazzo layer.

Technical Requirements for the Support Substrate
While the VIA.ZZO system is highly adaptable, it cannot compensate for structural or mechanical deficiencies in the existing support. For optimal performance, the substrate must comply with the following technical parameters:
- Recommended support substrate: reinforced concrete, minimum class C20/25
- Proper slope design: to allow natural water drainage toward gutters, siphons, or green areas
- Correct execution of underlying layers: earth, stone, ballast, or equivalent foundations
- Flatness tolerance: ±5 mm within a radius of 3 meters
- Substrate humidity: maximum 5%
Compliance with these requirements is essential to maintaining the quality, durability, and performance of the terrazzo system over time.
